TRR 266 Annual Conference 2024 with first Open Day in TRR 266 history

The Annual Conference of the Collaborative Research Center TRR 266 “Accounting for Transparency” was hosted this year by Paderborn University from November 20th to 22nd. Over 100 TRR 266 researchers from across Germany gathered to discuss the role of transparency in the economy. They shared their insights on how accounting and taxation affect the transparency of firms and regulation, and how accounting and tax regulation and transparency affect the economy and society.

As the ongoing effort of the TRR 266 is to expand the research on transparency in these areas, the Annual Conference offers the opportunity to connect within the transregional project and give each other feedback on their research. This enables the researchers to review the year’s progress and expand their collaborative networks.

The conference began with dedicated activities for early-career researchers, including a workshop for female researchers as part of the TRR’s female mentoring program. On the second day, participants then engaged in a series of parallel sessions and workshops, where they presented and discussed their work on diverse research topics ranging from sustainability reporting to tax avoidance.

For the first time, the conference’s final day was opened to the broader academic community, inviting researchers in accounting, taxation, and management to join. Joachim Weimann of Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg delivered a thought-provoking keynote speech titled “The Regulator and Transparency: A Complicated Relationship”, providing insights into the dynamics between regulatory bodies and transparency. An Open Science Workshop on this open day further underscored the conference’s commitment to transparency in scientific research and data sharing.
